Hey BLN, Ann here from Gravy Train. My family — that’s me, my husband, and our one year-old — just moved from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Charleston, South Carolina. We’ve been here less than a month, but already we’re discovering that it has lots to offer. For starters, it’s a historic place with gorgeous architecture, yet at the same time, small-town appeal.
Even though we’ve traveled all over the world, Charleston has become one of our favorite walking cities. There are eye-catching details everywhere that reward those who slow down, take a breath, and soak up the city.
But of course, walking works up an appetite, and so last weekend we ended up at the Charleston Farmer’s Market to sample the local wares.

It’s also shrimping season right now in Charleston, which means that local fisherman are bragging — and sharing — their daily catch.
Our little guy was enamored with these huge shrimp and the man who caught them, so we thought we’d do him one better by taking him to see the biggest fish we could find (at the South Carolina Aquarium here in town):
And we were delighted to discover a little taste of Asia, too, right on King Street in the most unexpected of restaurants.

WIth a bite of pork belly, spicy pickle and crushed peanuts wrapped in a steamed bun, we’ve had the perfect introduction to the Deep South. Plus a little reminder of where we came from.
